The Tour de France is a men's cycling stage race that crosses France and occasionally extends into neighboring countries. It was first held in 1931 to increase sales of the newspaper L'Auto, sponsored by Henri Desgrange and Geo Lefebvre. The Tour de France, Italy and Spain are the three main circuits. The Tour de France is the oldest and is generally considered the most prestigious of the three. Traditionally, the races take place mainly in July. The route changes each year, but the format of the race is the same, with at least two time trials, passing through the Pyrenees and the Alps, and finishing on the Champs Elysees in Paris.

The course, made up of 21 stages, each one more difficult than the other, will end with its 21st event, a 116 km race on the flat. It will have started in Paris la Défense Arena and will end as in every edition on the Champs Elysées avenue.
