Every year, on the third weekend in September, citizens have the opportunity to celebrate and discover their shared cultural heritage on European Heritage Day. Taking place from September 16 to 17, this celebration offers a unique opportunity to delve into the rich and diverse history of each participating country. In Paris, the event promises a captivating immersion in the past and present of the City of Light, with this year's theme: "Living Heritage and the Heritage of Sport".

The European Heritage Dayis an annual event that began in 1984, enabling the general public to visit monuments, historic sites, museums and places usually closed to the public, free of charge, while taking part in a variety of activities and events. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting Europe's cultural, architectural and artistic heritage.

The program for the European Heritage Day event in Paris is rich and diverse, offering something for every kind of audience. Guided tours of emblematic monuments such as Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, the Château de Versailles and many others will be organized. Lectures, traditional craft workshops, temporary exhibitions and open-air artistic performances will complete the immersive experience.

The city's historic districts will come alive with historical re-enactments, demonstrations of ancient arts and debates on the legacy of the Renaissance in today's context. Visitors will also be able to discover lesser-known but equally fascinating sites, highlighting the hidden treasures of Paris.

Would you like to attend the Paris Heritage Days but don't know where to start? On the official Paris City Hall website, you'll find a map showing the Paris Heritage Days by arrondissement. This will enable you to visit the sites closest to your home and rediscover them on special tours.

Please note: due to the large number of participants in the Paris Heritage Days, some events, workshops and guided tours must be booked in advance. You can do this on the official Paris Website some time before the start of the event.
